Lutron Caseta Motion Sensor Setup Tips

I’ve been experimenting with my Lutron Caseta Motion Sensor lately and wanted to share some of my findings. Setting up motion-activated lighting has been a fantastic way to enhance both convenience and energy efficiency in my home. Here’s what I’ve discovered:

First, I wanted to create a system where the lights adjust based on the time of day. Specifically, I aimed to have the lights turn on at 100% brightness during the day (7 AM to 9 PM) and at 50% brightness at night (9 PM to 7 AM). This seemed like a logical way to ensure visibility during the day while maintaining a softer, more ambient lighting at night.

In the Lutron App, I found that setting up schedules was straightforward. I created two separate schedules: one for daytime and one for nighttime. Each schedule was linked to the motion sensor, with the corresponding dimmer settings. The app’s interface made it easy to visualize and adjust these settings.

However, there was a bit of trial and error involved. Initially, I set the motion sensor to trigger the lights regardless of the time, but this led to the lights being too bright at night. Adjusting the schedules to align with the natural light cycle made a significant difference.

One thing I’d caution others about is testing the system thoroughly. I recommend starting with shorter intervals and gradually adjusting to ensure the settings meet your needs. For instance, I tested the 50% brightness setting during the day to confirm it wasn’t too dim, and vice versa for the night.

Finding the right balance between energy efficiency and comfort has been a fun challenge! I’d love to hear if anyone else has tried something similar or has tips to make this setup even smoother. Happy automating! :rocket:
