M100 problems adding any Ikea Matter Over Thread Devices?

Hi all - I have an Aqara M100 hub which I set up via Aqara Home on an Android phone. I hoped to use the hub as a thread boundary router for multiple Ikea matter over thread devices (BILRESA & KAJPLATS) so I can control them via an existing Alexa setup which does not have any other thread border router. But for starters I would be happy to just get them working using the Aqara app.

I have seen an “Add via Matter Controller” workaround recommended but never managed to get that prompt to appear as yet.

I have tried powering up devices late in the pairing process, but still always hangs at the 3rd step of the 4-step Adding screen i.e. “The service is connecting to the network”…
I have tried disabling my 5GHz Wifi network.
I have verified that my 2.4 GHz wifi network is WiFi6.
I have tried multiple devices (2 button switches, a rotary controller and a smart bulb) and always hangs at the connecting step.
I have tried rebooting the M100, rebooting my phone, using a different android device.
I do not have any Apple devices so that is not an option for me. I also do not have an Ikea hub, only the M100.
I do have the latest firmware installed in all devices.
I do have an existing matter over wifi sonoff relay switch which is controlled by an Alexa routine, I hope that is irrelevant but mentioned just in case.

I have searched here and reddit and read all sorts of ideas from others with similar issues but not found a fix that works for the M100 with Ikea Matter over thread devices - any ideas?

Thanks!

I have exact same bulbs and remotes, and I only have access to a android phone. The bulbs have paired straight away without issues, but the remotes still allude me. Like you I’ve tried all the work arounds with no success

Bad news, it’s not possible at this moment to pair Bilresa devices with android phone, and m100 hub.

Thanks for those replies. I took encouragement that pairing a KAJPLATS bulb to the M100 should be possible and eventually found that by removing a pairing I had set up between the M100 and my Alexa network I finally got the bulb paired to the M100 using the Aqara Home Android app as you guys have found was possible.

Of course I then also re-tried pairing some BILRESA switches again but inevitably got the same hang at stage 3 connecting to network issue.

I wonder where the real issue is - i.e. the Aqara M100, the Aqara app or the Ikea BILRESA? - and if anyone is working on a fix for this…

I have also had problems with the Bilresa and the Timmerflotte often loose the connection….

It has to be android app. It’s pairing with other matter controllers without issues. I reported it to the support a long time ago.
From Ikea, what is pairing without issues with android app is ikea water leak sensor, door sensor and bulbs. That’s what I have.

I have problems with iOS

with pairing?

Yes but just with this [BILRESA Fernbedienung, weiß smart/Scrollrad - IKEA Deutschland]

Yes the app situation points at the Aqara android app having some kind of fixable compatibility issue with BILARESA - in which case Aqara would do well to try to fix it as a priority - the only other scenario I can think of is if Aqaua think that some of Ikea’s devices are not conforming to the matter/thread specs - in which case it would be very helpful to inform potential users about this.

Ikea are going to sell a lot of these cheap matter / thread devices so seems likely that Aqara hub end user disappointment is likely to keep happening.

There is a guy on reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/tradfri/comments/1qox2t5/psa_for_anyone_struggling_with_bilresa/) who posted about testing over 50 BILRESA scroll wheel devices with an ikea hub and smart home app and about half of them failed to pair - so I guess there could be more than one issue here?
