I had the M2 hub bound to HK and 10 child devices fully functional in HK for a good long while.
A recent add, I implemented a mini switch as a doorbell and in single button press, triggering a doorbell sound from Apple Music to my 3 HomePods.
I’d been contemplating adding some Entry Sensors and using Aqara Security and found that think I can only sound the Aqara hub (hubs, since I orders two M1’s along with the entry sensors) is in the Aqara app, so in the app, I created an automation for only this one switch to ding the M2 hub.
Hours later, I realized ALL of my Aqara devices were no longer in HK. I tried to sync Aqara to HK, but they immediately failed. This morning I thought I’d take the typical IT approach and reboot the hub (I actually moved it to another room) but the sync is still failing. I tried removing the new button automation but still no love.
Is there anything I can do, short of blowing out the hub and devices and starting over, to get it to resume into HK?
Can anyone confirm I caused this by trying to create the mini switch automation in the Aqara app?
@jbh8063 It sounds like you’ve been having quite the adventure with your M2 hub and HomeKit setup! Let’s tackle your questions one by one.
Resyncing to HomeKit Without Starting Over: It’s frustrating when everything suddenly disconnects. Based on the reference information, here are a few steps you can try to get your Aqara devices back into HomeKit without resetting everything:
Ensure both your Aqara device and HomeKit hub (like your iPhone or iPad) are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, devices on different networks won’t communicate properly.
Check your Wi-Fi router settings to make sure AP Isolation is not enabled and that mDNS functionality is active. These settings can prevent your devices from talking to each other.
Restart your hub and your HomeKit hub. This simple step can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.
If all else fails, consider using a different phone to create a Wi-Fi hotspot and try connecting the devices to this new network for testing.
Cause of the Disconnection: It’s possible that creating a new automation could have led to the issues you’re experiencing, especially if the automation involved complex interactions or network changes. However, it’s also possible that the disconnection was due to network settings or a temporary glitch. It’s always a good idea to review any recent changes to your setup when troubleshooting.
I hope these suggestions help you get your Aqara devices back up and running smoothly! If you have further insights or solutions, feel free to share them with the community; we’re all here to learn from each other.
This wasn’t helpful. Repeated attempts were made to resync, but simply removing and re-adding all devices did work. I have to recreate all my automations, and one was quite complex. Now I’m concerned with it happening again, after I have these devices configured for Home Security.
Creating automations will not cause devices to disappear from HomeKit. You can try restarting your HomePod to see if that resolves the issue.
Additionally, regarding your concern about not wanting to recreate complex automations, you can first create a scene in the Aqara Home app, sync the scene, and then use that scene to build your automation. This way, you can simplify the process without having to set everything up from scratch again.
Trigger Security System:
The Window and Door Sensor must be set as a trigger device. It is necessary to set it first in the HomeKit mode of the Aqara Home APP. The specific steps are as follows:
Add Window and Door Sensor to the Aqara Hub; Go to Accessories page in Homekit , select the Aqara Hub and open the detail page, select “Alarm Trigger Devices” - “Away”, and select the Door Sensor as the Away Mode Trigger Device.
Set the Security System Target State to Away.
Open the door, it will trigger an alarm and the Security System Current State will turn to “Alarm Triggered”.
I had created the automations as shortcuts in HK. I was able to simplify and recreate and adding screenshots here. Basically, in the master bedroom I want to trigger a light to come on after 9am on weekdays on motion detection.
