I live in deepest darkest Cornwall, UK. we get some pretty bad storms so a good test of how water tight anything is that is outside.
I used to have a Netatmo External camera, but I couldn’t get it water tight at the junction box, even though I used silicon sealant. So, when the G5 Pro PoE came out, I bought one.
In January we had a severe storm. Where I was, sustained 70mph (115kph) Winds with gusts to 100mph (157kph). Water got into the junction box between the Ethernet cable and the camera.
Aqara replaced the Camera within a few days. I had to send it for testing. I had a replacement within a week. Pretty fast turn around.
When you do the install of the connection box, there is a rubber bung that goes around the cable to keep it water tight. I’ve found that the hole for the cable is just a little too big, so the 2nd time around I have used glue for inner tube patches for bicycles. Not had such a severe storm, but had a couple of good ones since. This seems to be working.
