Hey , Drop in and share some stuff I’ve learned the hard way about making Aqara sensors and switches last longer between battery changes.
For context, I’ve been running a pretty loaded Aqara setup for about 8 months now—motion sensors, door sensors, a few wireless switches. First couple of months, I burned through a few button cell batteries way too fast and started digging into why.
Here’s what worked for me:
-
Placement matters more than you’d think. Had one temp sensor near a drafty window—poor thing was reporting every 5 minutes. Moved it to a more stable area, boom, way fewer updates.
-
Zigbee network stability helps big time. Once I added a few powered devices (like smart plugs) to act as repeaters, the battery-powered ones stopped freaking out and pinging constantly.
-
Check your automation triggers. I had one motion sensor turning on a light every time someone blinked—trimmed the sensitivity and now I’m not swapping batteries every month.
Anyone else got power-saving tricks for these devices? Wondering if there’s a hidden setting or a firmware tweak I’ve missed.
Let’s keep our sensors alive and clicking.
