Maximizing Your Aqara Setup: Automation Hacks You Didn't Know About

Hey everyone, thought I’d share some of the cooler automations I’ve cooked up with my Aqara setup—some of these totally changed how I use the system.

I’ve fiddled with a bunch of sensors and automations over the past few months (kinda addicted now?), and here are a few that actually changed how my place works:

  1. “Sleep Mode” triggered by contact sensor – I’ve got a contact sensor on my bedroom door. If I close it after 11 PM, it sets a “sleep scene”: turns off all lights except a dim nightlight in the hallway and arms certain security automations. So smooth. No yelling at Alexa anymore.

  2. Humidity + Temp Combo for auto fan control – Using an Aqara temp + humidity sensor in the bathroom, I’ve set it to turn on a smart exhaust fan if humidity spikes over 65% after a shower. Automatically turns off once it dips back.

  3. Vibration sensor on mailbox – This one was fun. Vibration sensor stuck inside the mailbox. Whenever the lid moves, I get a push notification: “Mail might’ve arrived!” Surprisingly reliable.

  4. Presence + light sensor for smart hallway lighting – I placed a motion sensor + light sensor combo in the hallway. It only turns on the hallway lights at night when someone walks by. No more blinding lights at 2 AM.

Anyway, curious to hear what clever automations you’ve set up with Aqara gear. Any tricks you swear by? I’m always looking for ideas to geek out with.

Let’s hear 'em!
