Migrating from Schlage Link to MiCasaVerde and My Custom Ceiling Mount Experience

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately and wanted to share some of my experiences and insights. I recently decided to migrate from my Schlage Link system to MiCasaVerde, and the process has been both challenging and rewarding. The Schlage Link system was solid, but the recurring fees and occasional outages made me seek a more reliable solution. After doing some research, MiCasaVerde seemed like the perfect fit, especially with its Z-Wave compatibility and user-friendly interface. I’ve successfully integrated most of my devices, including the thermostat and cameras, but I’m still exploring the best way to program scenes and triggers for my locks. If anyone has tips or shortcuts, I’d love to hear them!

On a lighter note, I also wanted to share a fun DIY project I undertook. I recently remodeled my exterior and wanted to mount my Reolink camera without drilling into the new siding. I came across a clever ceiling mount idea on the Reolink forums and decided to give it a try. After a bit of trial and error, I managed to create a sleek, custom mount using materials from my local hardware store. The process was surprisingly straightforward, and the result looks fantastic. I’ve included a few photos in the post if anyone is interested in replicating the setup.

Another thing I’ve been experimenting with is integrating my smart lights with Home Assistant. I’ve found that creating preset buttons for specific scenes has been incredibly handy, especially for adjusting the camera focus without manual intervention. It’s amazing how a bit of automation can enhance the user experience.

I’d love to hear about your own projects and challenges! Whether it’s migrating systems, DIY installations, or automation setups, the insights from this community are always inspiring. Let’s keep the ideas flowing!

Cheers,
