Migrating from Wink to Hubitat: A Smooth Transition

After years of relying on my Wink Hub 2, I decided it was time for a change. Wink’s transition to a subscription model was the final push I needed to explore other options. I chose Hubitat for its flexibility and open-source nature, and I couldn’t be happier with the decision!

The migration process was surprisingly straightforward. Each switch and door sensor was reset and re-included into the Hubitat ecosystem using Z-Wave. The documentation provided by Hubitat made the process seamless, and I was up and running in no time.

One of the standout features of Hubitat is its Dashboard configuration. While initially overwhelming, it quickly became my go-to for organizing devices. I’ve been able to label devices to separate floors, a feature that adds a level of customization I didn’t have with Wink. The ability to create multiple dashboards is something I’m excited to explore further.

What truly impressed me was the freedom Hubitat offers compared to Wink. The rules engine, though I haven’t delved into it yet, seems powerful and user-friendly. Basic automations are simple to set up, and the potential for more complex systems is exciting.

If you’re considering a switch, I highly recommend Hubitat. The learning curve is minimal, and the benefits far outweigh any initial setup challenges. It’s liberating to have such control over my smart home setup!
