Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of Home Assistant and Alexa integration, and I thought I’d share some of my experiences and tips in case they can help others. ![]()
First off, I recently migrated from HASSbian to Home Assistant on Ubuntu Server. It was a bit of a learning curve, especially figuring out how to migrate all my add-ons. I found that copying the configuration files was straightforward, but the add-ons and their configurations were a bit trickier. I ended up reinstalling them one by one, which worked out in the end. If anyone has a smoother method, I’d love to hear it! ![]()
On the Alexa front, I hit a snag with the 150-device limit. I have around 180 devices connected via Hubitat, and Alexa just stopped discovering new ones. It was a bit frustrating, but after some research, I realized it’s a known limitation. I ended up creating smaller groups in Hubitat to bypass this. If anyone has a better workaround, please share! ![]()
Another thing I’ve been experimenting with is setting up a stream component on my Mac. It took a few attempts to get everything installed correctly, but now it’s running smoothly. The only hiccup is when I start a stream, it sometimes causes Home Assistant to terminate. I’m still troubleshooting that, but any advice would be appreciated! ![]()
Lastly, I wanted to mention the importance of battery management. I recently had an issue where a Kwikset 914 lock’s battery level dropped unexpectedly. Replacing the batteries didn’t resolve the issue immediately, but after a factory reset, it started reporting correctly. It’s a good reminder to keep an eye on battery levels, especially in devices that are critical for security. ![]()
