Migrating Z-Wave devices from OpenHAB 2.5 to a fresh install of OpenHAB 3 has been quite the journey! I’ve managed to transfer most of my configurations, but Z-Wave has been a bit of a puzzle. I’ve got backups from both 2.5.2 and 2.5.10, and I really don’t want to set everything up from scratch—especially for those hard-to-reach devices like the Fibaro roller shutter and single/double switches. Has anyone successfully migrated Z-Wave devices without re-including them? I’ve heard the Z-Wave folder in userdata might hold the key, but I’m not entirely sure how to proceed. Any insights or tips would be greatly appreciated!
While on the topic of devices, I’ve been curious about using tablets as permanent controllers for SmartThings. With the MiniMote priced at $60, an off-brand Android tablet for around $90-$100 seems like a cost-effective alternative. I’d love to wall-mount a few with permanent power. Has anyone tried this setup? Any experiences or challenges to share would be helpful!
Another intriguing project I came across is the Smart Porch Light app. It’s designed to dim lights at sunset and increase brightness upon motion detection, then dim back after a set time. The ability to adjust brightness during standby and reset at the next sunset sounds perfect for my needs. Would love to hear if anyone has implemented this or similar solutions!
