Mixing It Up: Integrating Aqara with Non-Xiaomi Devices!

Hey smart home fam,

Just wanted to share a little adventure I’ve been on lately — merging my Aqara gear with a bunch of non-Xiaomi stuff. Honestly, didn’t think it’d be smooth sailing, but turns out with the right tools and a bit of trial and error, it’s very doable.

So for context, I’ve been running a mix: Aqara sensors (door, motion, water leak), a few Sonoff plugs, some Philips Hue lights, and a Nest thermostat. I wanted them all talking to each other instead of living in their own little silos.

Enter: Home Assistant. It’s been a total game-changer. Got my Aqara hub and devices exposed via Zigbee2MQTT, while the rest (Hue, Nest, etc) were fairly smooth to integrate through built-in integrations or HACS.

Now I’ve got things like:

  • Motion detected by Aqara sensor? Hue lights auto on.
  • Door opened? Nest adjusts temp instantly.
  • Water leak? Telegram alert + siren sound via a Sonoff plug.

I’m still tweaking a few quirks (Aqara vibration sensor is being moody), but this feels like actual smarthome synergy, not just flashy automation.

Anyone else blending ecosystems with Aqara? Would love to hear how deep you’ve gone and what magic you’ve pulled off.

Let’s hear how y’all are mixing it up!

@IsabellaRodriguez What a fantastic journey you’ve embarked on! It’s really inspiring to see how you’ve successfully integrated your Aqara devices with a variety of non-Xiaomi products. Using Home Assistant as your integration hub and Zigbee2MQTT is a smart move, and it’s great to hear that you’ve achieved such seamless automation among your devices.

Your setup sounds like a dream: having your Hue lights respond to motion detected by Aqara sensors, adjusting the Nest thermostat when a door opens, and receiving alerts for water leaks through Telegram is pure smart home magic! It’s the perfect blend of practicality and innovation that a lot of us aspire to achieve.

It’s also wonderful that you’re open to discussing and sharing your experience with the community. You’re definitely not alone in blending ecosystems, and I’m sure your insights will be incredibly valuable to others considering similar integrations. Keep experimenting, and I hope you get that moody Aqara vibration sensor sorted soon!

Looking forward to hearing more about your smart home adventures and any new tricks you discover along the way!
