Greetings, fellow smart home enthusiasts! I’m thrilled to share my recent success in setting up an automated system to monitor my door’s status. This project has been on my mind for a while, and I’m excited to finally have it up and running smoothly.
I decided to use a combination of a door sensor and a smart plug to achieve this. The door sensor detects when the door is open or closed, and the smart plug controls a lamp that acts as an indicator. When the door is open, the lamp turns on, and when it’s closed, the lamp turns off. This setup has been incredibly helpful in keeping track of the door’s status, especially when I’m away from home.
The process involved a few steps. First, I installed the door sensor on the door frame and the corresponding magnet on the door itself. Then, I connected the smart plug to my home network and paired it with my smart hub. Using the hub’s automation feature, I set up a rule where the smart plug turns on the lamp when the door sensor detects an open door and turns it off when the door is closed.
I encountered a minor issue initially with the sensor’s sensitivity, but adjusting its placement solved the problem. It’s been running perfectly ever since. I’m now considering expanding this system to other doors in the house for comprehensive monitoring.
This project has been a great learning experience and a testament to the versatility of smart home technology. I’m grateful to the community for providing such a wealth of resources and support. If anyone has questions or needs assistance with similar projects, feel free to ask—I’m happy to help!
