Motion Activated Sprinkler Setup and Tips for Detering Unwanted Visitors

I recently set up a motion-activated sprinkler system to keep raccoons and party-goers off my lawn, and I wanted to share my experience and some tips for anyone looking to do something similar. My setup involves two motion sensors connected to my Rachio sprinkler system, with a few delays and conditions to make it effective without being too intrusive.

First, I programmed the system to activate zone 4 for 30 seconds when motion is detected. This short burst is enough to scare off unwanted visitors without wasting water. I also added a run limiter to ensure it doesn’t run too frequently, especially during the early morning hours when parties tend to spill over. The system pauses if I’m detected as ‘arrived’ or if any exterior doors are opened, preventing it from spraying me or my guests.

One challenge I faced was dealing with simultaneous motion detection from both sensors. This caused delays and errors, but after some troubleshooting, I adjusted the delays and conditions to handle multiple triggers more smoothly. If you’re setting up something similar, I recommend testing with shorter delays and gradually increasing them as needed.

This system has been a lifesaver for keeping my yard tidy and deterring pests. It’s also been a fun project to customize with the Rachio app. If anyone has questions or suggestions, feel free to reach out! Here’s to a stress-free yard maintenance routine! :tulip:
