I’ve been experimenting with my outdoor motion sensors lately and wanted to share some insights and tips that might help others who are also trying to balance sensitivity and notifications. ![]()

Like many of you, I have a mix of cameras and doorbells around my property. The key challenge has been finding the right sensitivity setting that doesn’t flood my phone with false alarms but still ensures I don’t miss important notifications. ![]()
I’ve noticed that setting the sensitivity to level 5 seems to be the sweet spot for most of my cameras. It’s sensitive enough to pick up motion from traffic on the busy street, but not so sensitive that it goes off every 5 minutes. However, I’ve had to adjust this for my front and back cameras since they’re in areas with less foot traffic. ![]()
One thing I’ve learned is the importance of testing different settings and observing the results. It’s also been helpful to involve my husband, who is an electrician, to ensure everything is properly wired and functioning optimally. ![]()
If you’re struggling with motion sensor sensitivity, here are a few tips:
- Start with the middle setting (like level 4 or 5) and adjust based on your environment.
- Consider turning down sensitivity on cameras facing busy streets or high-traffic areas.
- Regularly check notifications to ensure you’re not missing anything important.
I’d love to hear how others have configured their motion sensors and what settings work best for their setups! ![]()
