Motion Sensors P1

Hi, I have numerious sensors, switches and bulbs from aqara connecting to either an M2 or M3 hub, these are then connected to HA (Home Assistant) via matter.

However, I wanted to be able to see LUX values instead of waiting on sun position etc as a trigger.

Is there any other way of getting the LUX into HA other than connecting them to a zigbee stick?

If so, how? I cant see any options in HA to add these values, or is this something that Aqara could work on via a FW update? Would be very useful if I could get these values via matter in HA

Thanks in advance

Hello.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a P1 sensor. However, I wanted to ask whether you have integrated your hub as a Matter Bridge in HA and whether the P1 sensor then appears in HA?

I currently use the P2 with a Thread Border Router. The P2 was connected to HA and the light sensor appears there.

I also have an FP2 sensor that is integrated via HomeKit Device Integration, and I can use the light sensor in HA here as well.

In case you’re interested, there are also integrations for HA that estimate light values based on the position of the sun and cloud cover.

Hello, the light sensor starts measuring only after motion appears. This technical solution does not allow you to untie the motion from the light sensor. I personally use the Aqara light sensor. To be honest, after the release of automation 2.0, it became unnecessary. The gateway calculates sunset/sunrise mathematically depending on the location in the region. These calculations are local.

Is that the case with the P1 in Home Assistant? That’s a shame.

That’s not the case with the battery-powered P2.
And of course, it’s not the case with the FP2 either, because it has a power supply.

The sensors are located in different rooms.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies, however I have at the moment 5 P1 sensors tied into an M3 that then connects to HA via matter.

I am in the process of trying to see what happens with Hubitat (i have one of those also)

I dont really want to start replacing these sensors for P2 sensors just to get LUX values.

My hallway stops getting sunlight at aprox 11am hence thee reasons of wanting LUX values. I really think that Aqara are missing a trick here as its available in thier app but not via Matter??

Hello, I just happened to see a video in which the P1 was integrated into Home Assistant via Matter Bridge, and the YouTuber clearly stated that only the motion sensor is available, not the light sensor.

Alternatively, you could theoretically use a Matter signal. To do this, you set a LUX value. If the current value is above or below the set value, HA displays this signal as a Matter device that indicates occupancy (the type can be changed). However, the problem remains that gafich10 already mentioned that the P1 provides incorrect lux values when there is no movement.

I just tried to use a Matter signal with my P2, but the occupancy does not change even when I hold a daylight lamp up to the sensor. The Aqara app displays 1500 lux, but the Matter signal remains unchanged at “clear.” Am I doing something wrong?

Hi John,

Thanks for the reply and support. I have tried to connect it in via hubitit and the same issues were present, I have not seen the video you are refrencing but I have now purchased a P2 sensor now which does give me LUX values

thanks again
