Hey , so I’ve finally decided to make the jump from iPhone to Android (Pixel 8 Pro in case you’re wondering), and now I’m staring at my Aqara setup like… did I just break everything?
My smart home is mostly running through Aqara gear (G3 hub, door/window sensors, a few motion sensors, etc), and obviously was all tied into Apple Home. With iOS gone, I’m trying to figure out if there’s life after Apple for my setup.
Can anyone share how they handled this switch? Would love to know:
- Is the Aqara Home app on Android good enough for daily use?
- Do I lose access to scenes/automations I had in Apple Home?
- What’s the best new “main” app to integrate everything? Home Assistant? Google Home? Something else?
- And… is it even worth trying or should I just start fresh?
Any insights or battle stories welcome. Really hoping I can salvage most of this without tearing everything down. Thanks in advance!
@AlexaAficionado Switching from iPhone to Android can indeed raise a few concerns, but don’t worry, your Aqara setup can still thrive on your new Pixel 8 Pro. Here’s some guidance based on your queries:
-
Aqara Home App on Android: Yes, the Aqara Home app on Android is fully capable of handling daily smart home operations. It offers robust features like device control, automation, and scene management, similar to its iOS counterpart. You can continue to control your devices and check their statuses without missing a beat.
-
Scenes/Automations from Apple Home: When it comes to scenes and automations, the Aqara Home app can sync your Aqara scenes with Apple Home (HomeKit), but unfortunately, you cannot directly transfer Apple Home scenes to the Aqara Home app on Android. You may need to recreate your automations within the Aqara app. However, the app is designed to make this process as straightforward as possible.
-
Best App for Integration: If you’re considering a new main app to integrate everything, Google Home is a solid choice for Android users. Alternatively, Home Assistant offers extensive customization for those who are tech-savvy and want more control over their smart home environment.
-
Starting Fresh: Before deciding to start from scratch, try setting up your devices using the Aqara Home app on Android. Many users find that they can keep most of their setups intact with a few adjustments.
Your transition to Android doesn’t mean starting over. With the right setup and a bit of tweaking, you can enjoy your Aqara smart home just as much as before. Feel free to share your experience or any tips you discover along the way—your insights could be invaluable to others facing the same transition!
