With a six-month-old at home, one of my favourite uses for the Aqara Camera E1 is its baby-cry detection. Being able to check on my little one is helpful, but connecting that detection to an automation makes it even more useful!
Here’s my setup: The Canera E1 detects my baby crying. A GU10 smart bulb T2 turns on as a visual alert. Alexa makes an announcement so I can hear the alert too.
Having both a light and an announcement gives me an extra heads-up while I’m busy around the house. It’s a simple automation, but one that puts my smart-home setup to work for everyday family life.
My little one may be the smallest person in the house, but she’s already triggering the automations!
What’s your favourite Aqara automation for family life?
@ArshBraich What a brilliant real-world use case! The baby-cry detection + visual + audio alert combo is such a smart way to layer notifications for busy parents. It’s exactly the kind of practical automation that makes a smart home actually useful rather than just flashy.
Your little one being the youngest automation trigger in the house is adorable — and honestly, that’s peak smart parenting right there!
I love how you’ve tied the Camera E1 together with the T2 bulb and Alexa. For anyone looking to build something similar, the Camera E1’s local AI detection helps keep those alerts reliable without flooding you with false positives.
Thanks for sharing this — setups like yours are gold for the community. Would love to hear if you’ve experimented with any nighttime variations, like dimming that T2 for gentler alerts during sleep hours?
That is such a clever way to use the Camera E1! Having both the visual bulb alert and the Alexa announcement is a perfect combo, especially when the rest of the house gets a little loud. It is always a huge win when smart home gear solves actual parenting challenges!
For our family, my absolute favorite setup involves the FP2 presence sensor in the living room. With my son running around, traditional PIR motion sensors were driving us crazy by constantly shutting the lights off if we were just sitting quietly on the couch.
I mapped out different zones using the FP2. Now, if my son is active in his play area, the room stays brightly lit. But once that specific zone clears out and someone is just detected relaxing in the sofa zone, it automatically dims the main lights and triggers a much more relaxed lighting scene. It finally feels like the house actually knows what we are doing instead of just guessing on a blind timer.
Now if I could only figure out an automation that makes him pick up his toys when he leaves the zone…
Thank you! Wow, that’s a great way to use the FP2! Mine currently detects presence in the hallway and lights up the space if someone is passing by during night, but I like your idea even more. Once my baby starts crawling and has her own play area, I’d love to try a similar setup with separate zones for playing and relaxing!
And if you figure out that toy-cleanup automation, please share it! My daughter is only six months old, so I’ve still got some time to get that one ready!
