My Dream Feature: Combining the New Apple Watch Series 11 with Aqara for True Spatial Control!

Hey fellow Aqara fans and tech lovers!

Like many of you, I was glued to the news from Apple’s big fall event. As a huge fan of how seamlessly my Aqara and Apple devices already work together, my mind was racing with future possibilities. While the new, thin iPhone Air is impressive , the product that truly sparked my imagination was the new Apple Watch Series 11!

The article mentioned it’s the “thinnest and most comfortable watch” yet, with 5G connectivity and new health sensors like a blood pressure monitor. But it’s the potential of its underlying technology that I believe could unlock the next level of smart home interaction with Aqara.

The Big Idea: Aqara Spatial Control with Apple Watch Triangulation

My most anticipated feature isn’t something Apple announced, but what the new Apple Watch could enable with Aqara’s sophisticated hardware. I call it Aqara Spatial Control.

Imagine a presence detection system so accurate it doesn’t just know you’re in a room, but it knows exactly where you are, down to the centimeter, and even which direction you are facing or pointing. This would be possible by using multiple Aqara hubs (like the Hub M2 or a future M3) to triangulate the Ultra-Wideband (UWB) signal from the new Apple Watch Series 11.

Here’s how I envision it working:

  1. Hyper-Accurate Presence Triangulation: As I move through my home wearing my new Apple Watch Series 11, at least two or three Aqara hubs would constantly and passively read the watch’s UWB signal. By measuring the signal’s angle and time-of-flight from multiple points, the Aqara system could pinpoint my precise X, Y, and Z coordinates within the room. This would be the holy grail of presence detection!!
  2. Gesture Recognition via Aqara Cameras: Once the system knows my exact location, it would activate the nearest Aqara Camera Hub G3. The camera’s AI wouldn’t need to scan the whole room; it would already know where to look. It would then focus on my hand gestures.
  3. Intuitive, Magical Control: This is where it all comes together. By combining my precise location with gesture analysis, I could interact with my home like never before:
  • I could walk into the living room and simply point at the floor lamp. The system, knowing my location, the lamp’s location, and the trajectory of my arm, would turn it on.
  • A simple “thumbs up” or “fist-clench” gesture while pointing could confirm the action. A “thumbs down” could turn it off.
  • Imagine pointing at the smart blinds and making a “scrolling” motion with your finger to raise or lower them to the exact height you want.
  • Pointing at my amplifier and making a “turning a knob” gesture in the air could adjust the volume.

This moves beyond voice commands (which can be disruptive) and tapping on a phone screen (which requires finding your device). It would be a truly seamless and futuristic way of interacting with our environment.

The new Apple Watch Series 11, with its powerful processor and what I assume is an next-gen UWB chip, feels like the missing piece of the puzzle to make this a reality. Paired with Aqara’s best-in-class sensors and hubs, we could create a smart home that truly understands and anticipates our intentions through natural, human movements. AweDropping

This is the future I’m most excited about, and I believe the combination of Apple and Aqara is the key to unlocking it! I’m also super excited about the FP300

I suggest finger guns, making you the Wild Wests most feared sharp shooting Lightslinger! /s

It’s similar to the biometric scene setting currently on my wish list. As soon as everyone in the house falls asleep, I’d like all the lights to dim, volumes to lower, etc. Wake up in the middle of the night to toilet? Hall light turns on!

Haha, that would be a lot of fun

Love this, that would be something special. I love the idea of my home following me around and anticipating what would be useful.
