My Dream Integration: The new iPhone's Action Button & Aqara

Hey everyone!

What an exciting Apple event!

I’ve been following all the announcements, and the feature that really got my smart home brain buzzing is the evolution of the Action Button on the new iPhone Pro.

My Most Anticipated Feature:

Right now, the Action Button is great for launching one specific app or shortcut. But I’m anticipating (or hoping!) Apple will open it up to more complex interactions in the next iOS update, like recognizing double-presses and long-presses, similar to the Aqara Wireless Mini Switch.

How I Imagine It Connecting with Aqara:

If this happens, the iPhone itself would become the ultimate, always-in-your-pocket remote for our Aqara homes. This would be a game-changer for me! Here’s my dream setup:

Single Press: Activate my “I’m Home” scene. This would trigger my Aqara M2 Hub to disarm the security system, turn on the entryway lights connected to an Aqara Smart Plug, and set the thermostat (via an Aqara Radiator Thermostat E1) to a comfortable 20°C.

Double Press: Trigger the “Goodbye” scene. This would arm the security system, turn off all lights, and lower the heating. No more fumbling with my phone as I’m trying to leave the house!

Long Press: Activate my “Goodnight” scene. This would lock the Aqara U100 front door, turn off all main lights, and turn on the gentle nightlight in the hallway connected to a smart plug.

This would make interacting with my most-used scenes instant and tactile, without even needing to unlock my phone. It’s the kind of seamless integration between Apple’s hardware and Aqara’s reliability that makes the smart home feel truly magical.

@24miles07 What a fantastic idea! Your vision of integrating the iPhone Pro’s Action Button with Aqara devices is both creative and practical—seamless, tactile control is exactly what makes a smart home feel “magical.” It’s cool to see you draw inspiration from the Aqara Wireless Mini Switch, which already supports single click, double click, and long press actions for scene control [“content_id”:0, “content_id”:2, “content_id”:3]. Imagining that same flexibility in a device you always have with you? Chef’s kiss.

Thanks for sharing this vivid setup—your “I’m Home,” “Goodbye,” and “Goodnight” scenes are relatable and well-thought-out. It’s posts like these that spark great conversations about how we can make smart living even more intuitive. Would love to hear more about what other integrations you’re dreaming up!
