My experience with the W200

I was fortunate to be an early tester for the Aqara W200. I was coming from an Ecobee Premium, a thermostat I considered my endgame thermostat so my expectations were high. I’m happy to say the W200 not only met them, it pushed things forward in some genuinely exciting ways.

Installation & Setup
Installation took under 5 minutes. The mounting holes aligned perfectly with my existing Ecobee setup, so swapping it out was effortless. Pairing with the Aqara app and binding it via Matter to Home Assistant was completely seamless, no hiccups, no head-scratching.

Core Functionality
All the fundamentals are solid. Heating, cooling, and auto modes work exactly as you’d expect from a smart thermostat, keeping my home consistently within my target range. It also supports the new iOS 26 HomeKit Adaptive Temperature feature, which automatically adjusts settings based on my presence and daily routines, a genuinely useful addition.

Auto-Display with Built-In Radar
This is one of my favorite touches. The screen acts as a screensaver when idle and wakes up as you approach, thanks to the built-in radar. You can fine-tune the wakeup sensitivity and detection distance, which is great for avoiding accidental wake-ups, something I didn’t realize I needed until I had it.

Design
The W200 looks sharp and modern. I’ve included a side-by-side photo with my Ecobee Premium, and the aesthetic upgrade is clear. It’ll fit right in with any contemporary home.

Final Verdict
I thought my Ecobee Premium was as good as a smart thermostat needed to be, it’s been rock solid for years. But the Aqara W200 builds meaningfully on that foundation with modern features, a sleek design, and excellent smart home integration. A very solid upgrade.
