My Journey with Smart Home Cameras and Sensors

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share my experience with setting up smart home cameras and sensors. It’s been an exciting journey, and I’ve learned a lot along the way. I’ve been using Wyze cameras for outdoor monitoring, and while they’ve been reliable, I’ve encountered some issues with video loss. I’ve tried unplugging and replugging them, which works temporarily, but I’m still searching for a more permanent solution. Has anyone had success with an outdoor Wi-Fi access point or hardwiring an extender? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

On the indoor side, I’ve been impressed with Govee’s battery-operated cameras. They’ve been a great addition to my home security setup, especially since they don’t require constant wiring. However, I’ve noticed that battery life can be inconsistent. I’ve been using Duracell batteries, but I’m curious if others have found a better battery solution or if there’s a way to optimize battery usage.

Another area I’ve been exploring is home automation with sensors. I’ve set up motion-activated lights using Cam Floodlight v2, but I’m struggling with getting the lights to turn off automatically after a few minutes of no detection. I’ve configured the detection zones and automation rules, but I’m not quite there yet. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated!

I’ve also been experimenting with grouping my camera views on my phone and Mac. It’s a bit frustrating that they’re grouped by purchase date, but I’ve managed to rearrange them manually. I’d love to find a more streamlined way to organize them based on location or function.

One thing I’m particularly excited about is the ability to track the status of my air conditioner’s compressor using a custom sensor. It’s been a great way to monitor energy usage and ensure everything is running smoothly. I’ve shared the design and code on GitHub if anyone is interested in building their own!

Overall, I’m really enjoying the journey of creating a smarter home. It’s been a mix of challenges and triumphs, and I’m grateful for the supportive community here. If anyone has questions or wants to share their own experiences, I’d love to hear from you!

Cheers,
