My office setup

My office door has an Aqara U200 lock and a Door and Window P2, in the ceiling lights I have 2 LED Bulb T2s. All the devices are connected to the Aqara app and to Home Assistant via Matter.
I’ve got a few automation running

  • When the U200 locks after 8pm the lights turn off, a wall heater connected in HA also switches off
  • At 10pm if the door is closed and the U200 is unlocked I get a notification to remember to lock the door before bed
  • If the U200 is unlocked after sunset the bulbs turn on

Very cool. So you’re using the locked/unlocked status to inform whether your in the office or not?

If you wanted to upgrade, could be a good opportunity for a presence sensor. But that’s a creative solution regardless.

I have a similar setup. When I turn off the alarm during work hours it automatically turns on lights, opens blinds, and starts some background music. Everything gets turned off when the alarm is armed.

I also use the presence sensor to detect when I sit at the TV, and automatically turn off lights that interfere with the display, and have them come back on when I get up and turn it off. Or have a lamp come on when it gets dark while I’m sat at my desk.

Great setup! You’ve done a solid job combining security and automation. The 10pm reminder is smart, and using Matter with Home Assistant gives you lots of flexibility.

If you’re looking to expand, I’d recommend adding presence detection or geofencing. That way, your automations could respond not just to time and lock status, but also to whether you’re actually in the office—helpful for avoiding unnecessary triggers.

Also, adding more sensors like motion or temperature could let you build adaptive lighting or climate control. The U200 is a great foundation for a smart office—nicely done!

A presence sensor is exactly the next step I’ve been planning. Main thing holing me back has been that mmWave sensors need power and that’s not that easy with the location of current sockets. Really interested to see the Aqara FP300, as battery powered it would be exactly what I need… and if it works well battery power option would be great elsewhere in the house too.
