As I continue my journey into the world of smart home technology, I must say, it’s been an incredible ride! The ability to monitor and manage energy consumption in real-time has truly transformed how I interact with my home. One of the most exciting additions to my setup has been the Shelly Pro 3EM energy monitor. I wanted to share my experience in case it can help others looking to make the switch.
The installation process was straightforward, though it required a bit of research upfront. I watched several YouTube tutorials to understand the best practices for wiring, especially since my electrical panel uses a 200A breaker. Initially, I was a bit confused about the wiring configuration shown in the Shelly video, but after some careful consideration, I decided to go with a more logical approach: connecting everything A to A and B to B, with C powering Phase A. This decision was pivotal in ensuring accurate readings.
One challenge I encountered was the negative power values initially displayed in the Shelly app. However, I discovered a setting within the app that allowed me to flip the reading, which resolved the issue. The app now accurately reflects the energy consumption, matching the data from my Smart Meter Texas. For instance, the app showed 24.5kWh and 26.4kWh for two consecutive days, while the Smart Meter recorded 24.7kWh and 26.5kWh—almost identical!
This level of accuracy gives me confidence in the device’s reliability. Moving forward, my goal is to use this data to reduce energy costs. I plan to start by sealing drafts in the house and optimizing the efficiency of my heating and cooling systems. It’s inspiring to see how technology can empower homeowners to make informed decisions about their energy usage.
I would like to extend my gratitude to the community for providing such a wealth of information and support. If anyone has questions or needs advice, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Happy tinkering! ![]()
