Hello everyone! I wanted to share my recent experiences with integrating various smart home devices. It’s been an exciting journey, and I hope my insights can help others facing similar challenges.
First, I’ve been working on connecting my Tado controllers with an OJ WLCT3-19 thermostat in my extension. I read that Tado doesn’t officially support OJ thermostats due to low voltage and daisy chaining, but I thought it might work since I only have one thermostat. After some trial and error, I found that using the low voltage side of the Tado as a switch was the solution! It’s a bit technical, but definitely doable with some research and patience.
On the automation front, I’ve been exploring how to create a seamless “Cinema Mode” using Alexa. The idea is to have Alexa ask which app to open after triggering the routine, then control the lights and TV accordingly. I’ve managed to set up the basics, like turning off the lights and enabling the LED behind the TV. However, I’m still figuring out how to handle the second user input for app selection. If anyone has tips or workaround solutions, I’d be thrilled to hear them!
Another area I’ve been focusing on is my Wyze cameras. They’ve been a fantastic addition to my home security, but I recently faced an issue where my parents’ Wyze Cam V2 couldn’t playback recorded videos despite having an SD card. After some troubleshooting, I realized the firmware needed updating. Wyze support was really helpful, and now everything works smoothly again. It’s a good reminder to always check for firmware updates!
Overall, integrating these devices has taught me the importance of thorough research and patience. Each challenge solved brings me closer to my goal of a fully automated smart home. I’d love to hear about your experiences and any tips you might have for optimizing these systems. Happy smart home hacking! ![]()
