My Successful Integration of Wyze Cams with Battery Backup

I’ve been on a journey to secure my home with Wyze cameras, and I wanted to share my experience in case it helps others. My goal was to set up outdoor cameras that could withstand power outages, something I’ve experienced a few times this year.

After researching various solutions, I came across the RPi UPS PowerPack. It’s designed for Raspberry Pi but works perfectly with Wyze Cams. I was impressed by its 5000mAh battery and the option to add a second battery for extended backup.

Here’s what I learned:

  • Setup: It was straightforward. I connected the UPS to my Wyze Cam v2 and let it charge for a few hours.
  • Performance: During a 6-hour power outage, the cam recorded continuously. Recharging took about 10 hours using the standard Wyze USB power.
  • Manual Intervention: One thing to note is that if the battery fully depletes, you need to manually cycle the power switch to restart. Thankfully, my area’s outages are short, so this hasn’t been an issue.

I also explored other options like the Ravpower 6700mAh battery charger, which offers pass-through charging and surge protection. It’s a bit pricier but provides up to 5-6 hours of backup.

For those with multiple cameras, I recommend considering a combination of these solutions. The key takeaway is to test your setup during a planned outage or simulate one to ensure everything works as expected.

This experience has made me more confident in my home security, knowing my cameras can hold up even during unexpected power issues. Happy integrating! :rocket:
