Hi,
I recently got an Aqara Indoor Camera E1, and set it to backup to my NAS.
I have a few minor issues. If anyone has any thoughts on these it would be very helpful.
- Rename Folders
The folder structure for the footage is:
aqara_video
lumi1.54ef4… (a separate folder for each camera)
20251121 (a separate YYYYMMDD folder containing the video files)
The ‘lumi1’ folders that septate each camera’s footage have near-identical names, it would be much better if I could name it the location and camera name eg ‘Garage E1’.
Can I rename the ‘lumi1’ folder for each camera? Either in the Aqara Home app or in Finder?

Folder dates are not aligned
My E1 camera (correctly) creates a new YYYYMMDD folder at midnight, so the first file in each folder is created at 12:01am. But my G4 camera (incorrectly) creates a new YYYYMMDD folder at 11am, so all the footage from midnight-11am are in the previous days footage.
Is there a setting to change that will fix this?

No video playback in Quick Look
In Finder (MacOS) the Quick Look feature is useful to quickly skim through footage. The .mp4 video files from my DoorbellG4 work fine, so I can play, pause etc within Finder. But the .mp4 files from my E1 camera don’t play in Quick Look, I have to open them in Quicktime (or other video players).
Is there a way to get them to work with Quick Look?
Thank you so much,
I hope there are easy solutions to these issues.

@benkjamin Hi there! Thanks for sharing these detailed observations about your Aqara cameras—troubleshooting NAS storage can be tricky, so it’s great you’re diving into the details. Let’s break down your questions based on the available info:
1) Renaming the “lumi1” folders
Currently, there’s no official documentation mentioning whether the “lumi1” camera-specific folders can be renamed via the Aqara Home app or Finder. The NAS folder structure is designed to organize footage by date (e.g., YYYYMMDD), with file naming tied to the family time zone, but customization options for camera-specific parent folders aren’t noted . You seem to be experiencing an issue with renaming camera-specific NAS folders. Maybe our Aqara Experts can help you @Creator @Expert @Moderator , or you can contact customer support for assistance.
2) Folder date alignment (E1 vs. G4)
The timing of folder creation is likely linked to the family time zone set in your Aqara Home app . Since the E1 works correctly (midnight folder creation), let’s check the G4’s settings:
- Go to Aqara Home app > Profile > Home Management > [Your Home Name] > Location & Timezone to confirm the home location/timezone is accurate .
- Ensure “Adjust DST automatically” is enabled if your region uses daylight saving time .
- Double-check your phone’s time zone settings, as this can sync with the app .
Misalignment here might cause the G4 to use a different “midnight” reference (e.g., 11 AM local time if the timezone is off).
3) Quick Look playback for E1 MP4 files
There’s no specific troubleshooting info about E1 video file compatibility with MacOS Quick Look. Since G4 files work, the difference might stem from subtle encoding variations (e.g., codec, bitrate) between the two cameras. You seem to be experiencing an issue with E1 MP4 files not playing in MacOS Quick Look. Maybe our Aqara Experts can help you @Creator @Expert @Moderator , or you can contact customer support for assistance.

After being unable to change the folder names in the Aqara app and in Finder, I found a work around solution.
In Finder, I selected each folder and pressed ⌘i (to get info). I then put the relevent info into the Comments section.
I then sorted the folder by the comments.

So far, there is no solution for this. The Aqara bot suggested that I check that the Aqara Home app has the correct time zone selected, it did.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? @Expert

I found the main difference between the footage from the G4 camera and the E1 camera.
I noticed that for the E1, each video file contains the footage is in 2304x1296 and in 640x360.
I suppose this might be why Quick Look doesn’t allow video playback?
If anyone has thoughts on these issues, please let me know. Thank you!
@benkjamin Thanks for sharing these updates and the clever workaround for the folder naming issue—using the Comments section in Finder to sort folders is a great tip, and I’m sure other users with similar needs will find that helpful!
For the folder date alignment issue with your G4: Since you’ve already confirmed the time zone and DST settings are correct (as per the app’s location settings ), and the problem persists, it might be related to device-specific time synchronization. Our Aqara Experts @Creator @Expert @Moderator might have deeper insights, or you can reach out to customer support for further investigation.
Regarding the Quick Look playback: The resolution difference (2304x1296 vs. 640x360) could indeed affect compatibility with macOS Quick Look, as some media players have varying support for high-resolution or specific encoding profiles. Since there’s no specific troubleshooting info on this in our current resources, contacting support would be the best next step to explore potential solutions or report the compatibility observation.
