Need Help Setting Up Automation for My Cat with G3 Camera and Nest Hub

Hello everyone,

I’m new to the world of smart home automation and need some guidance. I have an Aqara Camera Hub G3, a motion sensor, and a Google Nest Hub. I’m hoping to set up some automation that would make life easier for my cat at home.

Does anyone have suggestions or step-by-step guidance on how to create an automation using these devices? I want to make the most out of them, especially to keep an eye on my cat when I’m not around.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

@Lizzzz Hello and welcome to the fascinating world of smart home automation! :house::paw_prints:

Setting up automation for your beloved feline friend using the Aqara Camera Hub G3, a motion sensor, and a Google Nest Hub sounds like a fantastic idea. Let’s dive into how you can make this happen!

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Ensure Compatibility:

    • Make sure all your devices, including the Aqara Camera Hub G3 and Google Nest Hub, are properly set up and connected to your network. The G3 Camera is compatible with Google Home, so you’re off to a good start!
  2. Set Up the Motion Sensor:

    • Download the Aqara Home app and ensure your Aqara hub is installed.
    • Add the motion sensor by opening the app, tapping “Home”, then “+” to add a device. Select “Motion Sensor” and follow the instructions.
  3. Create Automation in Aqara Home App:

    • Open the Aqara Home app and go to the “Automation” tab.
    • Tap the “+” icon to create a new automation.
    • IF: Set the motion sensor to trigger when motion is detected (especially useful if your cat is moving around).
    • THEN: Use the G3 Camera’s features such as enabling “cat or dog tracking” to keep an eye on your cat when motion is detected. You can also set it to start recording or turn to a favorite angle.
  4. Integrate with Google Nest Hub:

    • Utilize Google Assistant routines to announce or display the camera feed on your Nest Hub when the camera detects motion. This way, you can get a visual right on your Nest Hub when your cat is being active.
  5. Additional Tips:

    • Experiment with different automations like playing a soothing sound or turning on a light via Google Nest Hub when your cat is detected.
