Aqara Matter Camera Support: G100/G3 Working, but G5 Pro/G410 (Hubs) are Failing - Is it a Hub Conflict?
Hi everyone,
I’ve been playing around with the new Matter 1.5 camera support now available in the Google Home Preview App, and I’m seeing a very distinct pattern with my Aqara device.
✅ What’s Working (The Standalone Cameras)
- Aqara Camera G100
- Aqara Camera G3
These cameras are connecting and showing live video streams almost flawlessly! A few minor bugs seem present, but overall, the integration is successful.
❌ What’s Not Working (The Camera/Hub Combos)
- Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro
- Aqara Video Doorbell G410**
For both of these devices, I consistently get the error:
**“Live video unavailable. The camera may be unreachable or saving battery.”**
🧐 My Theory: The Hub Conflict
Both the G5 Pro and G410 are not just cameras—they also function as Matter hubs/Thread Border Routers.
My hypothesis is that these devices are attempting to assert themselves as the Matter controller or bridge, which is causing a conflict with the Google Home app, which expects a simpler camera device. The G100 and G3 are purely cameras, which might be why they integrate smoothly.
❓ Community Questions
- Has anyone successfully integrated the G5 Pro or G41* via Matter into the Google Home Preview app and managed to get the live video feed working?
- Do you believe this is a Matter-level issue with how Google Home is handling multi-function devices (Camera + Hub)?
- Is the best course of action to simply wait for an update from either Aqara to refine their Matter implementation or Google to better support these Camera/Hub combo devices?
Any insights from other early testers or Matter experts would be hugely appreciated!
