Hello everyone, I’m new to the forum and I’m excited to share my experience with setting up a night light automation system using Home Assistant. I’ve been experimenting with smart home devices for a while now, and I must say, the possibilities are endless! Earlier this week, I decided to tackle a project that I thought would be a bit challenging: setting up a bedroom light that adjusts its brightness based on the time of day. From sunset to 23:30, I wanted the light to be at 100% brightness, then dim to 10% from 23:31 until 06:30, and finally return to 100% brightness from 06:31 until sunrise. At first, I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of integrations and automations available in Home Assistant. I knew I needed to use a motion sensor, but the real challenge was figuring out how to automate the brightness changes based on time. After some research and trial and error, I found that using a combination of the built-in light automation and time-based triggers worked perfectly. Here’s a quick rundown of what I did: 1. I set up a motion sensor in my bedroom to trigger the light. 2. I created an automation rule that adjusts the brightness based on the current time. 3. I used the built-in sunset and sunrise times to ensure the light transitions smoothly throughout the night. The best part? It all works seamlessly without any manual intervention. I’m absolutely thrilled with the result and how much it has improved my sleep routine. If anyone has questions about setting up similar automations or needs help troubleshooting, feel free to reach out! I’d love to help others get started with the amazing world of smart home automation. Thanks for reading, and happy automating! ![]()
