Hey folks, just wanted to share a little weekend project that turned out waaaay smoother than expected: got my Aqara setup fully integrated with Home Assistant, and the result? Absolute magic.
I’m running the Aqara Hub M2 with a mix of sensors (door, motion) and a few switches all over the place. The Home app’s cool and all, but when I wanted more control, automation and nicer dashboards, I knew I had to jump into Home Assistant.
Getting it all talking was honestly less of a headache than I thought. The game-changer? Using the HomeKit Controller integration within HA. No need to root anything or mess around with custom firmware — just add the Aqara hub as a HomeKit accessory and boom, everything showed up in HA like Lego clicking into place.
Now I’ve got my lights triggering based on actual room activity, customized notifications if windows are left open, and automated “movie mode” scenes all running smooth. Bonus: with dashboards, it actually looks like something out of a sci-fi show.
If anyone’s sitting on the fence thinking “Seems complicated?”, trust me, it’s beginner-friendly with the right guide. Drop me a comment if you’re curious or stuck, happy to help.
