Non neutral light switch staying on

my switches that I use for a bathroom are staying on. I have power cycled the M3 hub and pressed and held the bottom and top of the switch and no change any ideas or is it toast?

Hello, what automations are made for the switch?

In Home Assistant I have a motion sensor (smart things brand/zigbee platform running) reading incoming traffic and to turn the light on. wait 10 mins turn light off unless motion is still detected.

Hi @Expert, any thoughts on this?

Have you maybe accidentally enabled decoupled mode?

And what lightbulbs do you have? No neutral switches have to let a little bit of current through (because it’s the only way to complete the electrical circuit and power the internal electronics) even in the off position.

Halogen light bulbs need a lot of power to light up BUT once they light up, they need just a tiny amount of power. They will stay on even with a little current. Those are NOT compatible with no neutral smart switches (neutral is a must or else replace those bulbs with LED).

Is this something that just started or present from the time of first set up?

There had been an update to matter server in home assistant that’s caused issues with Aqara hubs.

Please check this out

the line has an ikea (older non smart) led fixture and fart fan on it.

Started either today or yesterday I was out of town and not watching it. been in service for about 2 years maybe 3.

Both Aqara and HA are up to date firmware wise. as of this mornings HA Matter update. I wasn’t aware of an Matter issues. Honestly I am not that level of smart to mess with firmware. ie code fixing etc.

Apparently the matter update in home assistant to version 9 had or has issue with Aqara hubs depending if you expose it via matter

And just to be clear, is the issue only that your automation is not turning off the switch or that when you hit the buttons the are not turning off?

Trying to deduce if this is a software issue or a hardware issue.

@david thanks for this information. Updated to Matter Server Version 9 yesterday and wasn’t aware of any Aqara related issues yet. But there’s been two fixes for it already. Fingers crossed issues get sorted out quickly!

The switch is the issue all the other same model switches are working fine. Physical touched and automations

They are connected to an M3 hub via Matter/ Aqaras in house connection

Yeah, this is most likely a hardware issue.

With the switch gets stuck in the “on” state and both the physical control and automations stop responding, to me that points to an internal failure (like the relay getting stuck or the device freezing). Also possible the device crashed.

I’d still start by killing power at the breaker for around 30 seconds, then testing again.

If that doesn’t work, pull the switch to check the wiring. Make sure everything is tight and look for any signs of heat damage or arcing.

If everything looks normal, it’s very likely the switch itself failed internally at that point. I’d go through support and ask for a replacement if its under warranty.
