Occupancy Detection Setup for Smart Lighting

Hey everyone! I’m really excited about the possibilities of smart home automation, and I’m currently working on setting up a system that can detect when someone enters or leaves a room. My goal is to create a rule where the lights automatically turn on when someone enters and off when they leave. Additionally, I’d love to be able to count the number of people in the room, which I think could be really useful for adjusting lighting levels based on occupancy.

I’ve heard that motion sensors and door contacts are key components for this kind of setup, but I’m not entirely sure which devices would work best together. Does anyone have recommendations for reliable occupancy detection equipment? I’m also curious about how to configure the rules in my smart hub to make this happen seamlessly.

I’ve come across some mentions of using Zigbee or Z-Wave devices for better integration, but I’m not entirely sure how to set them up for occupancy detection. Any tips or experiences you’ve had with similar setups would be incredibly helpful! I’m really looking forward to hearing your thoughts and learning more about how to make this project a success. Thanks in advance for your advice!
