Optimizing Automation Structure for Smart Home Efficiency

As I dive deeper into setting up my smart home, I’ve encountered an interesting challenge regarding automation structure. I currently have two separate automations for leaving and entering my home, each with specific actions and delays. However, I’ve noticed an issue where the delay doesn’t stop when I return home within the set timeframe, leading to unintended actions. To address this, I’ve been stopping and restarting the leaving automation from the entering one, but it feels a bit hacky.

I’m curious if consolidating these into a single automation with multiple triggers and using the ‘selection’ action for enter/leave would be more efficient. This approach would require setting the automation mode to ‘restart,’ but I’m open to exploring this if it streamlines things.

Has anyone else tackled a similar situation? I’d love to hear about your strategies and whether you prefer smaller, modular automations or a more consolidated approach. The goal is to create a seamless and smart experience without relying too much on workarounds. Let’s brainstorm together! :grinning:
