Hey everyone,
I’ve been diving into the world of smart home security lately, and I wanted to share my experiences and some tips that might help others who are looking to enhance their home security systems.
First off, I recently upgraded my smoke detectors to the Kidde PI2010 wired system. Testing them was a bit nerve-wracking, but I learned that triggering one alarm does indeed set off all of them, which is the intended behavior for wired systems. It’s comforting to know that if one alarm detects smoke, the entire house is alerted. However, one downside I noticed is that these alarms don’t have a memory feature, making it harder to pinpoint the exact source of the alarm after the fact. If anyone has tips on how to address this, I’d love to hear them!
Another project I’ve been working on is integrating various smart devices from different brands into a cohesive system. I’ve been using the Harmony Hub to control my entertainment setup, and I’ve found it incredibly versatile. If anyone has creative ideas or hacks for incorporating more devices into this ecosystem, please share! I’m always looking for ways to expand its functionality.
I also stumbled upon an interesting bluSensor AIQ air quality monitor on Kickstarter. It seems perfect for openHAB users since it supports MQTT and local access. I’m considering backing it, but I’d appreciate any insights from those who might have experience with similar devices.
On the software side, I’ve been exploring Design Patterns in openHAB to streamline my rule creation. These patterns have been a game-changer for organizing my automation logic. If anyone has specific examples or best practices they’d like to share, especially for beginners, that would be fantastic!
Lastly, I’ve been looking into Smart Presence apps for my Homey setup. I noticed there are different versions available, and I’m curious if anyone knows how they compare or if there’s a way to merge features from the GitHub repository into the official app. Enhancing my home’s virtual presence detection is a top priority, and any advice would be invaluable.
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!
Cheers,
