Optimizing Irrigation with Soil Moisture Sensors

After redoing our backyard last year, we installed three irrigation zones—two underground drip hoses and one for planters. However, we noticed the underground systems weren’t providing enough water, while the planters were getting more than needed. To minimize guesswork and conserve water, we decided to set up soil moisture sensors near some plants to better understand their water needs and adjust accordingly.

While searching for reliable sensors, I came across many options on Amazon with mixed reviews. It was a bit overwhelming, but I finally found a few that seemed promising. I’d love to hear if anyone has experience with specific sensors or systems that work well with a Rachio controller. Any recommendations or tips would be greatly appreciated!

In the meantime, I’ve been experimenting with a few sensors and have noticed a significant improvement in water distribution. It’s been fascinating to see how data-driven watering can make such a difference. I’m excited to share my findings and learn from others’ experiences as well.
