Optimizing Smart Lighting with Motion Sensors and Schedules

I’ve been really enjoying setting up smart lighting in my home, but I wanted to share a challenge I faced and how I overcame it. I recently installed a set of LED strips along my staircase and wanted to integrate motion sensors to create a dynamic lighting experience. The goal was to have only a few lights illuminate as someone moves up or down the stairs, rather than having the entire strip light up at once.

At first, I wasn’t sure how to achieve this effect without writing complex automation scripts. After some research, I discovered that using a combination of motion sensors, presence detection, and scene automation in Home Assistant could make this possible. I set up the motion sensors at key points along the staircase and configured them to trigger specific scenes that adjust the brightness and color of the LED strips.

One thing I learned was the importance of fine-tuning the sensor sensitivity and delay settings to avoid false triggers. I also found that integrating this setup with my existing security system added an extra layer of convenience, as the lights would automatically adjust based on detected movement.

If anyone has similar ideas or questions about optimizing smart lighting setups, I’d love to hear your thoughts and tips! :rocket:
