Optimizing Webcam Streaming in Home Automation Systems

Hello everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of home automation and have recently started experimenting with integrating webcams into my setup. I’ve got a mix of devices from different brands, including Tuya and RTSP/ONVIF supported cameras, and I’m trying to get a smooth live stream going. While I’ve managed to get some basic functionality working, there are definitely some hiccups along the way.

For the Tuya cameras, I’ve noticed that they occasionally show static images instead of live video, which happens every 15-30 seconds. It’s a bit frustrating because I’d love to have a seamless viewing experience. On the other hand, the RTSP-supported cameras have their own set of issues. At first, the screen goes black, and I’ve had to refresh the browser to get it going again. Once it starts streaming, it works for a few minutes but then gradually slows down until it just shows static images again.

I’ve been using go2rtc, WebRTC, and ONVIF for the video display, but none of them have provided a completely reliable solution. I primarily use Google Chrome and Firefox as browsers, but I’m open to trying others if that helps. I’d love to hear how others have successfully integrated their cameras into their home automation systems. What tools or software have worked best for you? Any tips or tricks to ensure a stable and continuous live stream would be greatly appreciated!

I’m also curious about the different approaches people have taken. Do you prefer sticking with one brand for consistency, or have you found a way to seamlessly integrate multiple brands? I’d love to learn from your experiences and maybe even collaborate on finding a more robust solution. Thanks in advance for your insights and advice!
