Outdoor Camera Showdown: Aqara G5 Pro vs. Eufy S3 Pro – Which Wins?

I’m excited to share this insightful comparison video between two top outdoor cameras compatible with Apple Home: the Aqara G5 Pro and the Eufy S3 Pro. As an Apple Home enthusiast, having reliable outdoor cameras that integrate seamlessly with HomeKit is essential, and this video dives deep into the features and performance of these two standout models.

The video highlights key differences such as the Aqara G5 Pro’s Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability, which offers a cleaner installation without batteries, versus the Eufy S3 Pro’s battery-operated design with solar panel support. Both cameras offer impressive features, including 2K and 4K video capabilities, though Apple Home limits them to 1080p. Night vision performance is a significant point of comparison, with the Eufy’s infrared night vision outperforming the Aqara’s color night vision in low-light conditions.

Storage and AI features are also discussed, with the Eufy S3 Pro excelling in 24/7 recording and cloud storage options, while the Aqara G5 Pro’s AI features are noted to be less reliable and more costly to unlock. Placement flexibility and integration with other smart home devices are additional factors that could influence your choice.

What are your thoughts on this comparison? Which camera do you prefer and why? Have you had experience with either of these models or similar setups? Share your insights and experiences below!

I’ve owned both Aqara and Eufy outdoor cameras and sold my Eufy system this week, so I want to clarify a few things after watching the recent YouTube review.

That YouTube video is not representative of real-world performance, especially regarding color night vision on either camera.

Why I chose Aqara PoE:
• Much faster load times and overall stability
• PoE (LAN) connection is far more reliable than wireless
• No build-quality issues so far
• Power cable is included in the box
• First HomeKit camera with PoE support

Why Aqara over Eufy (real-world use):
• Aqara Wi-Fi model supports 5 GHz, unlike Eufy
• Eufy HomeBase creates its own Wi-Fi network, causing instability with existing Wi-Fi (widely reported on Reddit)
• Slow loading and missed footage on Eufy
• No 24/7 recording on Eufy unless a power cable is connected (making it effectively wired)
• Water ingress in the solar panel on two Eufy cameras
• Outdoor power cable not included with Eufy
• 4K cannot be used in the Eufy app when HomeKit is enabled

Where Aqara still needs improvement:
• 1520p resolution feels outdated in a market full of 4K cameras
• Subscription model is hard to justify without higher resolution
• UI translation issues (reported but treated as feature requests)
• PoE and Wi-Fi should be combined into one camera model for flexibility and backup

Overall, Aqara is more stable and better built in daily use, but improving resolution and merging PoE + Wi-Fi into one model would make it an easy recommendation.
