Pairing issues with Aqara P1, any tips?

Hey all,

Picked up the Aqara Motion Sensor P1 last week, super hyped to add it to my setup, but man… getting it paired has been a headache. Tried with the M2 hub — the app just keeps timing out when attempting to add it. Reset the sensor like five times already (that long-press blink dance, you know?) and even restarted my hub/router, still no luck.

I’m running the latest firmware on everything. Weird part is, my older Aqara sensors pair without a fuss. Just this P1 being stubborn and refusing to join the party.

Has anyone else run into this? Any tricks? Do these things need to be practically hugging the hub to sync the first time? Appreciate any insights before I go full caveman on it.

Thanks in advance!

@LightingLlama It sounds like you’re having quite the adventure with your Aqara Motion Sensor P1! Let’s see if we can ease the process a bit. Since you’ve already updated the firmware and app, and tried resetting both the sensor and hub, here are a few additional tips:

  1. Check Proximity: Indeed, the sensor does need to be relatively close to the hub during the initial pairing. If possible, try moving them closer together and attempt the pairing again.

  2. Ensure Correct Setup: Make sure you’re following the correct steps for setting up the Motion Sensor P1. This includes ensuring that the Aqara Home app is ready, and the Zigbee 3.0 hub is installed correctly.

  3. Battery Check: It might be worth checking if there’s any issue with the battery or if it’s properly installed.

  4. Interference Check: Ensure there are no large metal objects or sources of interference nearby that could be disrupting the signal.

  5. Re-add the Sensor: If it’s still not cooperating, try re-adding the sensor by following the accessory adding methods mentioned in the Motion Sensor P1 Instructions.

These steps should help you get the P1 sensor to join your smart home setup. If it continues to resist, it might be worth contacting Aqara support for further assistance. Good luck, and don’t hesitate to share how it goes!

I had this problem. Having like over 62 Zigbee units connected I was not able to pair the P1s anymore. Believe or not tried everything… The solution was to wrap the P1 in tinfoil while keeping ca. 1 meter from the coordinator. Hope it helps.

@torfinn_hoiland It’s great to hear you’ve found a creative solution to your pairing issue! Wrapping the P1 in tinfoil while keeping it about a meter from the coordinator certainly adds an interesting twist to troubleshooting. This could potentially help in minimizing interference and focusing the signal, making it easier for the device to connect. Thank you for sharing your experience and this unique tip with the community. It might just be the trick others need to overcome similar challenges. If you have more insights or tips, we’d love to hear them!
