is anybody done something to patio sliding door ? Automated lock or something ? regards
Haven’t seen a smart one, following…
I’ve seen some, but they have been manufacturer specific. If you have an Anderson patio door, Yale makes a smart lock. It’s expensive though. Not sure what others are out there.
Hey everyone,
I wanted to share a solution I put together for our sliding patio door here in the U.S. The door was just too heavy for my wife to open and close all the time, so I went looking for an alternative. I ended up finding a product called the AutoSlide, and honestly, it’s been amazing. It’s not an Aqara device, but I’ve been able to pair it with Aqara gear to make it work seamlessly in my smart home setup.
Out of the box, the AutoSlide can be triggered by wireless wall buttons (inside and outside). Tap the button, the door opens, and it automatically closes after a set time. It also has a secure locking feature that restricts access from outside when a certain mode is set—either manually or via the optional Bluetooth module. That Bluetooth module also comes with a companion app for managing modes. I haven’t done it myself yet, but if the Bluetooth module isn’t an option, a SwitchBot Bot could probably be used to automate mode switching. That might be my next experiment.
Of course, I wanted to take things further—specifically, to automate the door and see its status in HomeKit. The AutoSlide does have a Bluetooth module, but I decided to use what I already had. First, I cloned the wall switch signal with my Bond Bridge. That gave me HomeKit control via Homebridge, though the Bond Bridge doesn’t provide two-way feedback. To fix that, I added an Aqara Door & Window Contact Sensor so I could actually see if the door opened/closed successfully.
Next problem: sometimes it wasn’t convenient to press the wall button when heading out to the backyard. Enter the Aqara Presence Sensor FP2. I set up two motion zones: one along the exit path and one right in front of the door. Using the Controller for HomeKit app, I created an automation so if motion is detected along the path and then in front of the door, the Bond Bridge triggers AutoSlide to open. With the contact sensor in HomeKit, I also get notifications when the door opens and closes. And of course, you can limit this automation to certain times or days.
Now the sliding door works like something out of Star Wars or Star Trek.
If you don’t have an FP2, you can still set up a simpler version with an Aqara Motion and Light Sensor P2 or an Aqara Motion Sensor P1.
Hopefully this helps someone else looking for a sliding patio door solution. As a smart home enthusiast, I really enjoy combining products like these to build something that feels futuristic.
Could you show how it works through a video? It would be appreciated.
Thank.
I’ve been looking into this for a while. Nice to hear it is working well. I have dogs and get tired of having to constantly letting them in and out.
