Philips Hue Issues During Power Outages: A Frustrating Experience

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with Philips Hue lights and the SmartThings hub, as I’ve been dealing with a frustrating issue that I hope someone else has encountered and found a solution for.

Over the past few months, I’ve noticed that whenever there’s a power outage or even just a flicker in the electricity, my Philips Hue lights act up in a way that’s really inconvenient. While most of my other smart devices seem to handle these power issues gracefully, the Hue lights are a different story.

Here’s what happens: When the power goes out, all my Hue lights turn on automatically, which is unexpected and a bit annoying. I’ve tried using the Philips Hue app to turn them off, and that works, but when I go back to the SmartThings app to try and turn them on again, nothing happens. It’s like they’re stuck in some kind of limbo. I’ve tried re-pairing the hub multiple times, and each time it seems to work initially, but then the same problem happens again.

I’ve also noticed that the issue seems to get worse over time. The first time it happened, I was able to get everything back to normal after a bit of tinkering, but now, even after a fresh install, the problem persists. I’m starting to think that maybe the Philips Hue system just isn’t as reliable as I hoped it would be.

On the other hand, I’ve been really impressed with my GE light switch toggles. They’ve been rock solid, and I love that I can use any type of bulb with them. It makes me wonder if I should just switch over to GE completely and leave Philips Hue behind.

If anyone out there has dealt with this issue and found a solution, I’d love to hear about it! I’m really hoping there’s a way to make my Hue lights work as smoothly as the rest of my smart home setup. Until then, I’ll keep experimenting and see if I can find a workaround.

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing from you!
