Hey everyone, I’ve been experiencing some instability with my Philips Hue lights, and I wanted to share my experiences and see if anyone else has encountered similar issues or has suggestions for a fix.
The Problem
I set up a group of Philips Hue lights to turn on when my SmartThings door sensor detects motion. While it works most of the time, about 60% of the time, only one of the lights in the group turns on. The same issue happens when the door closes—the lights don’t reliably turn off. This inconsistency is frustrating, especially since I’ve tried several troubleshooting steps.
What I’ve Tried
- Replacing the Door Sensor: I thought the issue might be with the door sensor, so I replaced it. Unfortunately, the problem persisted.
- Relocating the Hub: I moved the SmartThings hub closer to the door sensor to improve signal strength, but this didn’t resolve the issue.
- Reconfiguring the Group and Rule: I deleted and reconfigured the lighting group and the associated rule multiple times, but the problem remains.
- Battery Replacement: I also replaced the batteries in the door sensor, but this didn’t help either.
Current Setup
- SmartThings Hub: Running the latest firmware.
- Philips Hue Lights: Connected via Zigbee.
- Door Sensor: SmartThings multipurpose sensor.
Seeking Solutions
Has anyone else experienced similar instability with Philips Hue lights or SmartThings automations? I’m considering switching to a different brand of smart lights, but I’d prefer to stick with Philips Hue if possible. Are there any settings or configurations I might have missed that could improve reliability?
Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help.
