I recently had the pleasure of integrating IKEA’s PARASOLL door/window sensors and VALLHORN motion sensors into my smart home setup, and I must say, I’m thoroughly impressed with both products. After months of anticipation, I grabbed them as soon as they became available in North America, aiming to replace some less reliable Z-Wave sensors and my flaky Sonoff SNZB-04 contact sensors. The experience has been nothing short of delightful! The PARASOLL sensors have proven to be a game-changer. Their design is incredibly smart, offering a lot of flexibility for mounting. Both the sensor and magnet are slim, which makes installation a breeze. I was particularly impressed with how they work seamlessly with my bedroom casement windows. The sensors can be triggered from the front or either side at a distance of about 2-3cm, eliminating the need for a riser. The included strong mounting tape and the option to use screws for the sensor bases add to their convenience. While unclipping the sensors from their bases to access the pairing button and battery compartment is a bit tricky, it’s a minor quibble that doesn’t detract from their overall performance. The VALLHORN motion sensors, while not as visually appealing as the PARASOLLs, are equally functional. They’re quick to respond and have a wide detection angle, which means I don’t have to get too creative with their placement. The sealed battery compartment is a nice touch, especially for use in bathrooms or other areas where moisture might be an issue. I’ve been using two VALLHORNs for about a week without any issues, though I’ve heard some users report false positives. Time will tell if this is a concern for me.Both sensors paired immediately with my Zigbee2MQTT setup, and the experience has been smooth so far. I’m particularly pleased with the PARASOLLs, as they’ve solved a mounting issue I had with my previous sensors. The design flexibility and ease of installation make them a standout choice for anyone looking to enhance their home security setup. One minor complaint I have is the difficulty in detaching the sensors from their bases. It’s a bit more challenging than it should be, but it’s not a deal-breaker. Overall, I’m thrilled with my purchase and would highly recommend these sensors to anyone looking to upgrade their smart home security. They’ve added a new level of convenience and reliability to my setup, and I’m already considering where else I can use them around my home.
