These days, many people enjoy their own outdoor spaces—patios, gardens, balconies, backyards—or spend time camping and relaxing outdoors. Lighting plays a big role in these environments: it needs to be bright enough, create a comfortable atmosphere, withstand the elements, and ideally offer a smooth smart experience.
What do you usually do in your yard or garden? Have you set up any outdoor lighting of your own? Which products do you use the most? Have you run into any practical issues? And what kind of outdoor lighting do you feel you need the most? We’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences with outdoor lighting.
At this time of year, when the days are shorter and it gets dark earlier, security becomes especially important.
Currently, there is no wall-mounted outdoor light from Aqara for the EU market that provides both general illumination and security lighting. A photocell-controlled, PIR-activated lamp that switches on at full brightness when motion is detected, then dims down after a set time or following the last activation, would be a valuable addition to the Aqara ecosystem.
Ideally, the device should automatically switch off at dawn or integrate with Sunrise/Sunset automation logic. A device that is weather-resistant and made from high-quality materials that won’t yellow, fade, or deteriorate over time, even under harsh weather conditions.
Good morning. Especially in moments of little heat, you can take advantage of the patio to relax or have dinner. The interesting thing would be non-direct lights to be able to generate atmosphere. In this way you can generate a warm lighting to relax but that also lets you see enough to be able to see. Depending on people’s needs, they might also need lights that illuminate a road.
I’m a big believer in “less is more.” I hate how so many recent smart string lights (like govee and nanoleaf) have highly stylised looks. I prefer something that blends in and looks like traditional lights. Similarly, when it comes to strip lights, I much prefer COB designs, where you can’t actually see the individual LEDs. And way too many outdoor strip lights are really thick and bulky - they should be flat and sit mostly flush against whatever surface they’re mounted (underside of eaves, railings, steps, etc). A solar option would be great for lights that are located further from the house. And now with the new FP300, it would be great to have an outdoor version with IP67+ rating, so it can better respond to lighting needs in real-time. I’m also a fan of portable tabletop lights (like the kind you get a restaurants) - it would be nice to have a smart, matter-enabled option like that as well. Finally, a solar-powered flood light for doorways/garages would be great. It should go without saying, but all of these should have tunable white light.
Hi, We are lucky enough to live in the San Francisco Bay Area where we enjoy relatively mild climate throughout the year. We do a fair share of gardening in the back yard but also enjoy the ability to open out backdoors and let a breeze come through the house. We eat some meals out back. I’ve set up some hue lights in back and have some Govee lights that I need to install too. Hue lights are great but I need to now install something over or replace the light switches.
