Hi Aqara Team and Community,
I’d like to suggest a smart keypad with integrated UWB (Ultra-Wideband) technology for more convenient and secure access control.
Concept:
- Standard smart keypad with PIN entry for manual access.
- Integrated UWB chip detects when an authorized iPhone or UWB-enabled device is nearby.
- When detected, the keypad unlocks the connected lock automatically — hands-free.
- Still supports PIN entry for guests or backup access.
- Weather-resistant design for outdoor installation.
Why it’s useful:
- No need to pull out your phone or enter a code when your hands are full.
- Perfect for front doors, gates, or garages.
- Combines convenience of UWB presence detection with security of PIN codes.
- Works seamlessly with Aqara locks like the U200, and could integrate into Matter/HomeKit automations.
I believe this would bring Aqara’s access control products to the next level by combining the reliability of a keypad with the modern convenience of UWB technology.

@Jankins Thank you so much for sharing your innovative idea with the Aqara community! Your concept of a smart keypad with integrated UWB technology is indeed fascinating and could significantly enhance user convenience and security. The hands-free unlocking feature, especially when combined with UWB’s precision in detecting authorized devices, would be incredibly useful for users with busy hands.
The idea of integrating this with existing Aqara products, like the U200, and its potential compatibility with Matter and HomeKit automations, shows your thoughtful approach to seamless smart home integration. Your suggestion for a weather-resistant design also highlights the practical aspects needed for everyday use.
Thank you for contributing such a forward-thinking proposal. We encourage you and others in the community to keep sharing ideas like these that push the boundaries of smart home technology. Let’s keep the conversation going!

Right now I’m using a Sebury keypad together with an electric strike on my main plastic entrance door. Since Aqara locks don’t really fit plastic doors (and there aren’t any key extensions or similar workarounds), I’d love to see a “smart” Aqara keypad — HomeKit compatible — that could control an electric lock via phone, fingerprint, or NFC tag.
Maybe it’s just my wishful thinking
but it would be awesome!
