Resolving Wyze Camera Issues with Same SSID for 2.4Ghz & 5 Ghz

I recently encountered an interesting challenge with my Wyze cameras after changing my router settings. I decided to unify the SSID for both my 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks to allow devices to seamlessly switch between bands. While this worked well for most devices, my Wyze cameras started experiencing issues with remote viewing. They became extremely unreliable, almost unusable at times. I found this quite puzzling and decided to dig deeper into the problem.

After some research, I discovered that having the same SSID for both bands might interfere with how Wyze cameras handle network connections. To test this theory, I changed the SSID for my 5 GHz network and tried accessing the cameras using my phone’s cellular data. Surprisingly, everything worked perfectly! This confirmed that the issue was indeed related to the SSID configuration.

I then reached out to Wyze support to understand why this happens and if there’s a way to keep the SSIDs the same without affecting camera performance. While waiting for their response, I thought of sharing my findings with the community in case others are facing similar issues.

In the meantime, I’ve kept the SSIDs separate for now to ensure my cameras work smoothly. I’m hopeful that Wyze will provide a solution or workaround in the future. If anyone else has experienced this or has insights, I’d love to hear about your experiences!

Happy troubleshooting and keep those cameras secure!
