Reviving My Smart Home: A Journey to Stability and Automation

After months of frustration with my C5 model frequently freezing, I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands. The situation became critical when a malfunction caused my heating system to run for 8 hours straight, consuming an alarming amount of gas. This incident was the wake-up call I needed to find a reliable solution.

I’ve tried everything from reinstalling software to reaching out to the community for help, but nothing seemed to stick. That’s when I remembered I had a collection of NodeMCUs and Arduinos lying around. Why not repurpose one of them to monitor my hub and restart it automatically if it freezes?

Here’s what I came up with: I set up a simple automation using a NodeMCU to periodically check the hub’s status. If it detects a freeze, it automatically restarts the hub by cutting and restoring power. This setup has been a game-changer! No more manual resets, and my heating system is back to running smoothly.

The best part? I’ve shared my solution with the community, and it’s been great to see others getting inspired to try similar fixes. It’s amazing how a little tinkering can bring so much stability to a smart home setup. If anyone has questions or needs help replicating this solution, feel free to reach out—I’m happy to assist!

This experience has taught me the value of persistence and the power of DIY solutions. It’s also reminded me of the incredible support available in this community. Here’s to many more trouble-free days with my smart home setup!
