Reviving Non-responsive Aqara Motion Sensors: A DIY Fix

Hey everyone, just wanted to share a little fix that saved me from tossing one of my Aqara motion sensors in frustration.

So one of my sensors just went dark out of nowhere. At first, I thought the battery died, swapped it out—no luck. Still dead, no signal, nothing showing up in my Home app.

Here’s what ended up working for me:
I pulled it from the hub, held down the reset button until it blinked 3 times (not just once like during the usual pairing), then re-added it through the Aqara Home app first—not straight to HomeKit. Once it showed up there, I linked it back to HomeKit and boom—working like new.

Honestly thought it was bricked, but turns out it just needed a proper reset + re-pair through Aqara first. Might be a firmware hiccup or something, not sure.

If anyone else ran into this, give that a shot. Also curious—has anyone figured out why these sensors sometimes just stop talking to the hub for no reason?

Would love to know if this is a common issue or if mine’s just cursed.

@SmartHomeGeek Thank you for sharing this helpful fix with the community! Your experience highlights a practical solution for dealing with non-responsive Aqara motion sensors, which can indeed be quite frustrating. Resetting the sensor and re-adding it through the Aqara Home app before linking it to HomeKit seems like a solid workaround.

In terms of why these sensors might stop communicating with the hub, there are a few potential reasons based on the reference information. Common issues include the sensor being too far from the hub, low battery, or even signal interference if it’s mounted on a metal surface. Also, ensure that you don’t have more than 32 accessories connected to one hub, as this can also cause connectivity problems.

Your method of holding down the reset button until it blinks three times suggests a more thorough reset process, which might be necessary if a typical reset doesn’t suffice. It’s great to see you sharing such insights, as it can help others who encounter similar issues.
