RGBgenie Controllers Experience and Tips

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience with the RGBgenie Controllers for RGB strips. I had heard mixed reviews in the past, but after returning the devices due to poor drivers, I decided to give them another try with their new drivers. I must say, the experience has been much better this time around!

I’ve been powering 24v RGB strips, specifically 2x 45ft strips, and planning a 90ft run around my pool. Half going one way and half the other. I wanted to make sure everything was properly powered, especially at the end of the strips. I’ve been using a 24v power supply and housing everything, including the controller, in a weatherproof box to protect it outside.

One thing I’ve been curious about is the heat output from the controllers. I’ve heard they can get warm, but so far, I haven’t noticed any issues. I’ve been keeping them in a well-ventilated area, which seems to be working fine.

Now, onto the connectivity. I’ve been using Z-Wave for most of my setup, but I’m considering trying Zigbee as well. I’d love to hear others’ experiences with both protocols in terms of reliability and performance.

Another feature I’m interested in is the touch panel controllers. From what I understand, they can pair directly with the controllers rather than through the hub. I’d like to know how responsive they are and if they integrate smoothly with Home Assistant (HA). I’m planning to put one outside for the pool lights, so ease of use and reliability in outdoor settings are key for me.

If anyone has experience with these controllers, especially in outdoor setups or with long runs, I’d love to hear your tips and tricks! Have you encountered any issues with power supply or signal degradation over longer distances? Any advice on optimizing performance would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to hearing from those who’ve worked with RGBgenie Controllers and have some insights to share!
