Ring Alarm Setup and Battery Monitoring Tips

I recently set up my Ring alarm system and have been exploring its features. One thing I noticed is that by default, the sensors report Wi-Fi strength, but I wanted them to show battery levels instead. After some research, I found that both values are available in the entity settings. However, figuring out how to switch the default reporting value wasn’t immediately obvious. I decided to share my experience in case others are looking to do the same.

First, I checked the entity settings in Lovelace to see if there was an option to change the default attribute. Unfortunately, it wasn’t straightforward. I reached out to the community for advice and was directed to the configuration files. By modifying the entity configuration, I was able to set the battery level as the default displayed value. This was a bit technical, but with some guidance, it worked out perfectly.

For anyone else looking to make this change, I recommend checking your entity settings and exploring the configuration files. It’s a great way to customize your setup and ensure you’re monitoring the most important metrics for your devices. I’m now able to keep an eye on battery levels without having to manually switch views, which is a huge convenience.

If you have any questions or tips about customizing your Ring alarm or other smart home devices, feel free to share them below! Happy automating!
